Definition:

In a fraction, the denominator represents total number of parts been divided and the numerator represents how many of those parts we deal with.

For Example: In this fraction 3/4, 3 ( the numerator) denotes the number of parts you have. and 4 (the denominator) denotes the number of parts the whole is divided into.

Diagrammatic explanation of fraction:

Slice a pizza, and you will have fractions:

The top number tells how many slices you have The bottom number tells how many slices the pizza was cut into.

Types of Fraction:

Proper fraction:

In this type of fraction numerator will be less than the denominator.
For example:  1/2, 3/5

Improper fraction:

In this type of fraction numerator will be greater than or equal to the denominator.
For example:  5/5,7/2

Mixed Fraction:

In this type of fraction you have whole number plus a fraction.
For example: 2 5/3
